Today we began working with the clay and practicing sculpting techniques.Objectives
- Understand the properties of clay.
- Begin to experiment with clay techniques and practice scoring, slipping and modeling.
Essential Question
- How can we be successful sculptors?
- Texture
- Looking at whole sculpture
- Craftsmanship
Focusing Task (5 min)
- What’s-up Warm-up: Tell me about one positive thing that happened to you this weekend.
Guided Practice (15 min)
- Teacher will review the objectives for the entire project.
- Teacher will give rubric for the sculpting portion of the project.
- Teacher will go over clean up procedure.
- Teacher will demonstrate scoring and slipping.
Learning Activity (20 min)
- Teacher will administer supplies.
- Teacher will demonstrate some basic sculpting techniques.
- Students will follow along, experiment and practice sculpting the beginning of a face.
- Students will sculpt the head and eyes.
Closure (3 min)
- Ask students to think about what the most challenging thing about working with clay was and share with group.
- Group will determine which of the ideas was most important to address and share with class.
- Teacher will try to answer as best as possible.
