  • Understand and demonstrate the principle of emphasis.

Essential Question

  • How can an artist direct the viewer’s eye?

Focusing Task (5 min)

  • Get sketchbook and begin working.

Guided Practice (15 min)

  • Teacher will review the project.

Learning Activity (20 min)

  • Students will finish working in their sketchbooks.

  • Clean up

  • Begin to design a toy using a brainstorming process.

Essential Question

  • How can an artist use the ideas from others in order to create something new?

Focusing Task (5 min)

  • Get sketchbook set up the brainstorming page.

Guided Practice (5 min)

  • Teacher will explain the project.
    • Design 3 potential toys
    • The full body should be shown
    • Add as much detail as possible
    • Cannot copy something that already exists, must design something NEW
    • Toy should “do” something that would be fun for kids to play with.
      • Moving arms and legs are not enough

Learning Activity (30 min)

  • Students will brainstorm ideas for their toy design.

  • Share one idea with partner.

  • Continue to design a toy using a brainstorming process.

Essential Question

  • How can an artist use the ideas from others in order to create something new?

Focusing Task (5 min)

  • Get sketchbook and continue brainstorming.

Guided Practice (5 min)

  • Teacher will review the project.
    • Design 3 potential toys
    • The full body should be shown
    • Add as much detail as possible

Today students continued brainstorming ideas for their toys or completed work that was due for the first quarter.
